Since January 19, 2022, SMK SMTI Padang has opened registration for new students. SMK SMTI Padang as one of the school units under the guidance of the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI) of the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, currently has 2 (two) expertise programs. Industrial Chemistry with a study period of 3 (three) years and Industrial Automation Engineering with a study period of 4 (four) years. In addition, SMK SMTI Padang has also implemented a dual system education where learning is also carried out directly in the industry.

To support new student admissions, since Monday, February 14, 2022, several promotion teams have gone directly to junior high schools in West Sumatra to introduce about SMK SMTI Padang. This activity is also expected to attract more prospective students to register at SMK SMTI Padang, the first unit at the Ministry of Industry to achieve the WBBM title in 2019.
